White Shadow

For years after his family was massacred, the half-breed Night Shadow harbored black dreams of vengeance—and the hope of someday finding his kidnapped younger sister. Now was the chance. His enemy had shown himself and was to be wed. It would be a simple maneuver to steal the man’s bride-to-be, to ride off with the beautiful Winona and reveal the monster she was to marry.

But it was not simple. Winona would not be convinced. Even the burgeoning desire Night Shadow saw in her eyes had not convinced the Sioux beauty of her betrothed’s evil. Worse, Night Shadow returned his captive’s ardor; where he meant to be cruel, he found in his heart only longing. Could love be born of revenge? There seemed but one way to find out: Take Winona into the darkness and pray that, somehow, he and she would find their way to the light.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: RR@H Top Pick

First off, I have not read any of Ms. Edwards other books in her White series, but I had no problems following WHITE SHADOWS. Captive books aren't my favorite theme but Ms. Edwards does a wonderful job.

Night Shadow has a lot of anger and hurt in his heart. Winona feels his pain and is determined to help him, changing her from a captive to a partner. Winona is never weak and helpless, and Night Shadow never tries to wear her down to submission.

The humor in WHITE SHADOWS is a delightful surprise. In fact, during the first part when Night Shadow takes Winona, she fights him like a wildcat, earning both his, and my respect. This part had me laughing. <G> Night Shadow tried in vain to remain serious but watching Winona find joy in the simplest things made him remember the good times in his life.

So, if you enjoy captive torn lovers, revenge, or emotionally wounded hero books, I highly recommend you add WHITE SHADOWS to your list to pick up this week. My copy is headed to my keeper shelf for many rereads.

...Oh, and I am now looking for the others in the White series.
