The Darkest Secret by Gena Showalter
Keeper of the demon of Secrets, Amun can manipulate the darkest thoughts of anyone nearby. But when new demons possess him, the immortal warrior must be chained and isolated to protect those he loves. Death is his only hope of release—until he meets Haidee, a fellow prisoner whose beauty and hidden vulnerability draw him into a reckless test of his loyalty….

Haidee is an infamous demon assassin, raised to despise Amun’s kind. Yet how can she hate the man whose touch sets her aflame? But to save him, she must give herself body and soul…and face the wrath of a powerful adversary sworn to destroy her.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

Amun is plagued by nightmares after his trip to HELL.  In constant pain and terror, the Lords are doing everything they can to bring their friend’s sanity back.  Haidee is tormented by the cries of the man in the room near hers.  Unable to resist, she breaks in and is stunned to see the beaten and bruised body of a man she assumes to be her boyfriend Micah.  Vowing revenge against her enemies, she soothes her fellow prisoner.  Amun is stunned when the screams of the damned are silenced by the strange woman’s presence.  When he realizes it is his sworn enemy in his arms, he struggles to deal with his new found protective urgings.

THE DARKEST SECRET was an unexpected pleasure.  Watching these two sworn enemies try to resist their feelings for one another caused the pages to fly by.  Gena Showalter proves she's a master in the romance genre with her ability to draw the reader in and keep you guessing.  The secondary characters play an integral part in the story, and the overall plot adds to the ongoing arc of the Lords of the Underworld.  While I wasn’t eagerly awaiting Amun's story, I was pleasantly surprised.  THE DARKEST SECRET is a can’t miss installment in the series.  It is definitely a keeper and on its way to my re-read shelf.
