I laughed out loud. I swallowed past a lump in my throat. I turned the pages so fast I gave myself a paper cut. And I read so long my eyes burned. But not once did my attention waver while reading UP IN SMOKE by Katie MacAlister. I enjoyed this fun-filled paranormal romance even though I didn't read PLAYING WITH FIRE, the first Silver Dragons novel. Everything was explained so fully that I didn't feel lost for a second, although I will pick up a copy of the first book simply because this writer's style is compelling enough that I want to read more from her. UP IN SMOKE subtly poses the question: Just how far would you go for love? Most people would do a lot for love, but would they go so far as to hook up with a demon? That's exactly what May has to decide. I fell in love with May, as well as the wild and sometimes wicked cast of characters who make this adventure fly off the pages. Some of the details are hysterical! Naiads, underground rooms and demanding demons, as well as sharp, witty dialogue, pull the story along at such a fast clip I was surprised, and dismayed, to find myself at the end of the book. Want an upbeat, funny paranormal? Then I suggest you pick up a copy of UP IN SMOKE. You won't be disappointed! Kay James |
