RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:
GHOST MOON by Rebecca York is one of a series of "Moon" books. I have not read any of the others, but that did not keep me from truly enjoying this one. If you like travel between worlds, ghosts, werewolves, love and sinister plots, all rolled into one nice, tidy package, then this is the book for you! It has all of these things, and much more.
Quinn is a traveler who moves between her time and the present day on what is basically a mission of mercy. She has given her word to help save the life of Zarah, her closest friend. She sets about securing a place for Zarah to hide while things in their time and world are settled so that Zarah's life is no longer in danger. On one of Quinn's preparatory trips to the present, she "meets" Caleb Marshall, the ghost of a werewolf who has spent seventy-five years yearning for someone to communicate with. Quinn's extraordinary psychic abilities allow this to happen, and the two begin what is definitely an unusual—but effective and highly romantic—relationship.
I think the reason I enjoyed this book as much as I did had less to do with the sub-plot involving nuclear bombs and raving lunatics than the loving relationship that develops between Quinn and Caleb. They're both injured characters, but together they are strong and have the ability to heal each other. Too, Quinn's commitment to Zarah is a facet that cannot be overlooked. The strong ties they share bring extra humanity to a story that has its share of inhuman elements.
All in all, GHOST MOON is a stellar tale that anyone with an affinity for shapeshifters, spirits and romance is sure to enjoy. I know I did!
