Remember Me? by Sohpie Kinsella

When twenty-eight-year-old Lexi Smart wakes up in a London hospital, she’s in for a big surprise. Her teeth are perfect. Her body is toned. Her handbag is Vuitton. Having survived a car accident—in a Mercedes no less—Lexi has lost a big chunk of her memory, three years to be exact, and she’s about to find out just how much things have changed.

Somehow Lexi went from a twenty-five-year-old working girl to a corporate big shot with a sleek new loft, a personal assistant, a carb-free diet, and a set of glamorous new friends. And who is this gorgeous husband—who also happens to be a multimillionaire? With her mind still stuck three years in reverse, Lexi greets this brave new world determined to be the person she…well, seems to be. That is, until an adorably disheveled architect drops the biggest bombshell of all.

Suddenly Lexi is scrambling to catch her balance. Her new life, it turns out, comes complete with secrets, schemes, and intrigue. How on earth did all this happen? Will she ever remember? And what will happen when she does?

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

REMBEMBER ME? by Sophie Kinsella is laugh-out-loud funny, a true romantic comedy that had me in stitches from beginning to end.

Lexi Smart has, as she herself puts it, a crappy life. Lousy job, Loser Dave boyfriend, crooked teeth, cheap shoes and no real prospects of any of that getting any better. But when she wakes in a hospital to find she's forgotten three years of her life—three very important years—her whole situation changes. Her teeth are perfect, she's two sizes smaller than she remembers being, her nails are long and fabulous—and so is most everything else in her life. She's married to a hunky millionaire, drives a Mercedes and they live in a gorgeous loft. What more could she want?

Lexi finds there are quite a few things she'd like to have, the most notable being her memory. And her friends. The grass-is-greener scenario is what Lexi's got, but she finds that even on the other side of the fence there are often brown spots on a seemingly immaculate lawn. This character is so well written I forgot she was a character. I laughed with her, I shared angst with her, and I nearly cried at her disappointments. I was with her every step of the way and when she finds the way to the optimal path for her amnesia-directed situation, I cheered for her.

This is a story of self-discovery that goes far deeper than most. The best part of it is that while there are some pretty serious and complex issues involved in the story, Ms. Kinsella's signature sense of humor makes everything delightfully interesting and light-hearted enough to be supremely enjoyable. I loved REMEMBER ME? It is just as good as the Domestic Goddess stories, and they are some of my all-time favorites! Bravo!
