Lose Yourself in the History, Opulence, and Elegance of the Thousand Islands

Cousins Amanda, Sophie, and Fanny Broadmoor are as close as sisters, but when their grandfather dies, the terms of his will just might destroy their bond. Seventeen-year-old Fanny has never put much stock in the conventions of society. In fact, she has given her heart to Michael, the family boat-keeper. But when she receives a surprising inheritance, she discovers just how oppressive society can be... and that she may be trusting the wrong people.

Dare she follow her heart and risk going against her family? What if she loses everything she's ever known? It all comes down to one choice: What does Fanny Broadmoor want her legacy to be?

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: Top Pick

A DAUGHTER'S INHERITANCE is the first book of a series called The Broadmoor Legacy, and if this is any indication of what the rest of the series will be like, I am sold!

When historical fiction is thoroughly researched and well written, it sweeps the reader right back in time. That's exactly what happened to me on the first page of this book, when I met Fanny Broadmoor and Michael Atwell, innocent children on a summer's day on Broadmoor Island. Even as youngsters there is a chemistry and mutual respect between this pair.

The next chapter brings us to a later day in Fanny's life, and I am relieved to see Fanny is still as delightful as she was when she was younger. Her cousins Sophie and Amanda are equally engaging. Fanny's circumstances change drastically when her Grandfather dies and the contents of his will are divulged. Trials heretofore unimaginable to a young lady of breeding are set before her. Fanny must overcome many obstacles. Will one of the things she loses as a result of her Grandfather's demise be her lifelong attachment to Michael? Will the feelings between Fanny and Michael be strong enough to carry them past any unpleasantness brought forth by her family and society? Only time, and Fanny's heart, can tell for sure.

I loved this book. The writing team of Tracie Peterson and Judith Miller is first rate. Everything about A DAUGHTER'S INHERITANCE is flawless. The dialogue and mannerisms are appropriate for the time, characters are so real they touched me, and the way this duo portrays the Thousand Islands makes me want to visit this gorgeous area again. I've been there several times and the richness of the details in this story bring the landscape to life.

A DAUGHTER'S INHERITANCE is a legacy that any author should be proud of. It is wonderful.
