The Medalliion of Solaus by Kimberly Adkins

Solaus had but one wish of the medallion: to save his dying bride. But when he placed the pendant around his neck, his wish was changed by a malevolent twist of magic that made him Djinn, but also took away the knowledge of what he is and who he used to be. Flung from Ancient Persia into immortality, Solaus has only the memory that he did not save his true love-and nothing more as time begins to pass.

Eager for a fresh start, New York City photographer, Kaitlin Sommers accepts a rare assignment on a deserted island fortress off the coast of Alexandria, Egypt. Surrounded by the shadowy underworld of illegal treasure smuggling, Kaitlin finds herself in the arms of man who seems to spring directly from dreams of her past-a man Fate threatens to tear her away from a second time.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

Kimberly Adkins debut release is a romantic fantasy called THE MEDALLION OF SOLAUS. It's a rather unique story that takes the reader on a journey from America to Egypt.

I have to be honest here, and unfortunately it really hurts to be honest sometimes. THE MEDALLION OF SOLAUS just didn't do much for me. It has nothing to do with the writing. In fact, I found Ms. Adkins to be rather adept at writing descriptive passages. For me, the problem was with the main character, Kaitlin, and her utter lack of safety for herself. I just don't understand why she would accept an artifact that she knows was taken illegally and then flown to Egypt, and then be led on a job by a man she doesn't know and to a location that she's unaware of. Here is the perfect example of the "too stupid to live" heroine.

The hero didn't do much for me, either. To be honest, there were some scenes that were just a bit silly. It's never easy to criticize a book, and although I didn't enjoy this one, that doesn't mean that you won't. This is Ms. Adkins debut book and I would give her next book a try.

Kimberly Adkins' THE MEDALLION OF SOLAUS, isn't one of the best books that I've read lately. However, she does have some works in progress that seem to be rather interesting reads.
