MIDNIGHT'S BRIDE Author: Sophia Johnson ISBN: 0821780492 10/2007 HISTORICAL Publisher: KENSINGTON
While this last book in Sophia Johnson's trilogy is very bittersweet for me, MIDNIGHT'S BRIDE is also one of the best books that I have ever read. Sophia Johnson has a way of writing that goes straight to a reader's heart, making a person fall in love with her characters and their story. I didn't see it coming, but Merrick's story snuck right up on me and grabbed a hold of my heart. He comes off like such an old cranky pants in the beginning of the book, but I just KNEW that he was going to come around for Netta. The things he has gone through, the turmoil of his situation, make him such a wonderful character. He has so much depth and is such a wonderful alpha male, at times he's downright bossy! But our beautiful heroine, Netta, is not one to take orders from anyone. She has gotten away from her horrible father and wants nothing more than to be left alone. But, she realizes that there is no escaping Merrick or the feelings that he stirs up inside of her. She is a wonderful heroine, very spunky and so full of life. My only complaint about her is that she can be naive to the point of stupidity, but the book is so good, for the most part I was able to laugh at her ridiculous naiveté. Sophia Johnson writes the perfect book with just the right balance of all the elements that make a romance what it is. Sassy, smart, charming and overflowing with sexual tension and good old fashioned humor, MIDNIGHT'S BRIDE is one for the keeper shelves! Kristal Gorman |
