The Cop and the Mermaid by Connie Keenan

Tommy's trouble was that he'd never been very good with women, and with Jenny, the woman he loved desperately—he was worse. He'd always thought she was special. He just had no idea how special she really was.

Jenny had adored Tommy a lifetime ago, but he'd never seemed interested in more than the platonic friendship they'd had. She hadn't expected her return to Windy Harbor to reawaken long unfulfilled desires.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

THE COP AND THE MERMAID at first seems like a story that is fairly run-of-the-mill. Desperately in love man, unable to tell woman how he really feels about her. Woman loves man but maybe their chance for happiness has already come and gone. Then, when they are reunited, love is rekindled. Pretty standard, right? Not so, when you factor in the whole mermaid/merman angle. That brings a whole new twist to the story, one that is entertaining as well as unusual. While Tommy and Jenny seemed sometimes silly and immature, this relationship works because they're on pretty even footing. I enjoyed watching them finally find their way to each other.

While I wouldn't read this again and again, it was definitely entertaining. Connie Keenan writes well and gives the usual a sense of flair in THE COP AND THE MERMAID.
