A WEEK FROM SUNDAY Author: Dorothy Garlock ISBN: 0446695335 11/2007 HISTORICAL Publisher: GRAND CENTRAL PUBLISHING
A WEEK FROM SUNDAY takes the reader back to America in the 1930s, a time where the pace was slower and although people were more trusting of those around them, there were still those unscrupulous enough to take advantage of a situation to suit their own needs and desires. When Adrianna Moore's father passes away, her grief is compounded by the discovery that he's left everything to his attorney, Richard Pope. Immediately following the funeral, he informs her of this fact and proposes she marry him to regain what is rightfully hers to begin with. Adrianna does what any woman with a backbone would have done at the time-she puts space between herself and Pope. A rainy night, crashing car and a crippled boy help Adrianna find the peace she's lost with the death of her father. Too, it shows her that love isn't found in the eyes of a smarmy lawyer, but in the arms of a handsome lumberjack. The only issue I have with this book is that it ended. I love Dorothy Garlock's writing style. She sucked me into this tale with the first line, and made me yearn for Adrianna to find happiness after heartache. I can easily-and heartily-recommend A WEEK FROM SUNDAY to anyone who enjoys reading a good, old-fashioned story where love finds its own way and good triumphs over evil. Kay James |
