When I Fall in Love by Lynn Kurland

Nicholas de Piaget is finished with demoiselles more interested in his riches than his heart. He is certain he'll spend the rest of his life in his leaky castle, watching others enjoy wedded bliss, until he stumbles upon a flame-haired maiden in distress. His honor demands that he help her return home—if only his heart would allow it.

Jennifer McKinnon is convinced that there are no more knights in shining armor—at least not in Manhattan. Then a chance trip to England leaves her wondering if a happily ever after might be in her future. Little does she know that a hero of legendary chivalry awaits her. . . eight hundred years in the past.

But desires of the heart and dangerous secrets threaten to tear them apart, and only time will tell if true love can lead them to a fairy-tale ending. . .

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

I am still smiling, and I think I will be for days. Lynn Kurland's WHEN I FALL IN LOVE gives me the happiest feeling, and it's the most charming story I have read in quite some time. It outshines all in my stack of dark and gloomy "to be read pile," and makes me want to put this sort of chivalrous tale back to the forefront in romance.

WHEN I FALL IN LOVE features the perfect fantasy most of us had, or still have: Seemingly perfect, but lonely modern life, when suddenly you find yourself back in the thirteenth century with your very own Knight in Shining Armor. *Sigh* Naturally it is so much more than that, but I don't want you to think that because of its paranormal billing, it's full of shape-shifters and, heaven forbid, vampires. As a matter of fact, besides the time travel bit, there is only a small segment featuring matchmaking ghosts that adds to the story but in no way distracts from the very human element it represents.

The main reason I love this book is because of its characters. They are without equal. In all my reading this year, I can honestly say I have not read a better character driven story. They are perfect! Sure, the setting and wonderful plot give them the arena in which to shine, but with the witty banter and touching dialogue, I swear I could see them as I read. Heck, since I am still smiling, I think I still can.

WHEN I FALL IN LOVE is absolutely perfect in its characters and its humor. It richly deserves the praise I know Kurland's fans are going to heap upon her.
