Eleanor has always been looked on askance as "the bossy American" by London society, the very antithesis of British virtue and propriety. Now, at the death of her husband, she has been appointed trustee to his estate, and the proverbial fur is flying. Infuriated, her mother-in-law sends Lord Anthony Neale to put an end to Eleanor's nefarious gold-digging ways.
Anthony and Eleanor clash immediately. He thinks she's a siren who uses beauty to entrap men. She thinks he's a haughty, cold English snob. Despite their initial misgivings, they are increasingly drawn to each other. But someone is threatening Eleanor, and as the break-ins and other malicious activities begin to pile up... it's Anthony who tops the list of probably suspects! |
RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:
A DANGEROUS MAN, the new release from Candace Camp, is certain to satisfy the romance reader in all of us! It's filled with the just the right amount of sexual tension, romance and drama. Although this is the first book by Candace Camp that I have read, it definitely won't be the last.
Lady Eleanor Scarborough, widow of the late Sir Edmund Scarborough, has traveled back to England from Italy to confront his family. Edmund's family consists of his overbearing mother, young sister and his slightly older uncle Lord Anthony Neale. However, for Eleanor, this is not a homecoming she's looking forward to. Her mother-in-law despises her and Anthony is suspecting her of murdering Edmund. Adding to Eleanor's already complicated homecoming is a break-in at her residence.
A DANGEROUS MAN is much more than just a woman coming to terms after her marriage of convenience has ended so abruptly. There's a passionate romance between Eleanor and Anthony and there's also a mystery to solve. It seems that perhaps Edmund was murdered, instead of being killed in a boating accident. Together, Eleanor and Anthony must uncover the truth while trying to hone down the passion that flares up between them when they are together.
I enjoyed Candace Camp's A DANGEROUS MAN, although I would have liked it better if Eleanor and Anthony's romance began when they trusted each other, instead of almost instantly. It just seemed a tad bit hurried for me. Otherwise, I applaud Candace for giving her readers a romantic and passionate story that has a bit of mystery and a lot of drama! A recommended read, for sure.
