The Bare Truth by Elizabeth Clarke

Juliette Garrison was in the habit of speaking her mind—a serious liability for a lady's maid in one of the great houses of London's aristocracy. A young woman in service must know her place, obey the rules, and be a model of discretion. But how could Juliette know her place when she was the result of a torrid affair between a serving girl and the son of a lord? And how to be discreet when a brash young American insisted on pursuing her?

Thomas Jameson thought nothing of breaking the rules; in fact he seemed to take pleasure in flaunting society's strictures. Below stairs, behind hedges, in his luxurious bedroom, she learned that passion knows no boundaries, and the most delicious thrill of all is... The Bare Truth.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

THE BARE TRUTH by Elizabeth Clarke, is one of those historical romances that sets the bar for all the rest of them. It was so well written that I felt as if I, too, was experiencing every scene along with her characters.

Set in England in the late 1800's, it is a rags-to-riches story that made me laugh, cry and wave my fist when the heroine finally triumphs over the circumstances of her life. The love scenes are hot and steamy without being overdone.

Although I could go on at length about what a great tale this is, I won't. I'll merely say that once you begin to read about Juliette Garrison, street urchin cum lady's maid, you will fall in love with her. THE BARE TRUTH is an excellent book and I know I will read—and enjoy—it again.
