Vax was a Hunter long ago, but tragedy took its toll on him and he so left them. Jess is a human reporter with some extraordinary gifts that help her in ferreting out the truth in a story. Jess begins investigating a story concerning some horrendous murders, and when she gets too close, she is warned off the story with the murder of her sister. This, of course, only makes her more determined than ever to find the ones responsible for the killings. When Jess gets in over her head, Vax feels the call of a Hunter that something is wrong, and though he doesn't want to get involved he follows his instincts—straight to Jess and the trouble she's about to face. While you know pretty early on who the ones responsible for the murders are, HUNTER'S SALVATION centers more on how they are going to be stopped than on finding out who is behind it all. Vax's character and history are explained in detail in this story, and by the end he felt like a real person I might pass on the street. I felt like Jess, on the other hand, was so blinded by her grief and guilt that she was almost annoying, though she does have some redeeming qualities that help when all the fighting begins. Both Vax and Jess have some major issues that prevent an easy beginning to their relationship. For me, those issues at times made me want to tell them to stop being such idiots, and at others made their growth together that much better. All in all, HUNTER'S SALVATION was a winner for me. The characters and the story stayed with me long after the last page was read. April Luth |
