ISLAND HEAT has to be one of the most silly stories I have ever read. Yes, it's a fantasy/paranormal so I had to cut it some slack, but the plot is even more far-fetched than anything with shape-shifters or vampires in it to me. Forgive me for not going into too much detail, because I really could tear this one apart for all the unbelievable stuff that's in it. I will sum it up by stating the most ludicrous part of the story to me: No one is surprised that there is a space alien/humanoid trying to open a portal to another world (in order to send his people salt) in their midst. When the heroine tells her private investigator the whole "truth" about the hero, the investigator doesn't even bat an eye. When the heroine tells a reputable reporter her far-fetched tale, he too, is eager to believe it. The fact that there is no skepticism on any secondary character's part that the hero is from another planet, is just too hard for me to swallow. Actually, the rest of this book is difficult to get down as well. Shannon Johnson |
