MY BIG FAT SUPERNATURAL WEDDING is a compilation of stories written by several authors that all have a wedding or marriage theme to them. It is a fun, fast-paced, entertaining read that, for the most part, is quite good. All of the stories are in some way paranormal, or at least magical. The authors do a marvelous job of creating fanciful complete short stories within the small amount of pages allotted to them. Sounds good, right? Well, it is, provided you skip the first story, or if you enlist the aid of an interpreter to translate the slang in it for you. I don't mean to pick on the author, but I honestly have no idea what that story is about because I don't know what the characters are saying! Normally, I am good with dialect, slang, whatever, so I am just going to chalk this one up to a case of "too much." I am all for authentic portrayals, re-enactments and the like, but that story gives me a headache. Anyway, a few of my favorite authors contributed to this one (THANK YOU, LORI HANDELAND! for letting me visit with Will and Jesse again!!!), so I say it's worth the price. Just know that you can't judge the rest of the book by the first story. Shannon Johnson |
