What began as an investigation of ecoterrorism turns into murder and DNR agent Nick Seek is running for her life. Environmental crime is a hot topic today in the headlines, and LEAVE NO TRACE is a novel that weaves ecoterrorism with murder and steamy romance.
Working undercover for the Department of Natural Resources, Nick Seek shows up late one night in a small town in the Missouri Ozarks. She claims she's there to check up on her aunt but she's really there to investigate an ecoterrorist group harassing her Uncle Dexter and threatening her own work with the DNR. The game becomes much more dangerous when Dexter is found hanging from a tree, murdered, and her Aunt Jessie has disappeared.
Nick is further compromised by John McGuinn, the local sheriff, a man who both desires and distrusts her. Following a night when sexual desire overwhelms better judgment, events spiral out of control when the gun that killed Dexter turns out to be Nick's.
Finding herself a suspect for murder, Nick evades arrest by going on the run, determined to find her missing aunt while continuing her investigation of the ecoterrorist group. She follows a series of mysterious emails from her aunt that leads her on the trail of the protest group as they move from state to state through the Ozarks.
Tracked down by the sheriff, Nick is forced to confront her own personal battles with intimacy and aloneness as she and the sheriff join forces to search for a killer. Their struggle to find common ground for a relationship adds further complications to the plot. |
RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:
Well written and captivating, Lynn Romaine has created a winner for audiences everywhere with this romantic thriller. Great love scenes, lots of plot twists, and a surprise ending—what more could you ask for!
Nick Seek is undercover, trying to ferret out the person or persons trying to sabotage her career. She’s also trying to track down her headstrong Aunt Jessie. Nick’s search takes her to Lost River where she meets the handsome and slightly chauvinistic county sheriff, John McGuinn. There’s danger at every turn, and Nick finds herself seeking comfort in the sheriff’s arms.
I couldn’t put this novel down. I was mesmerized from page one. There’s romance, (with some amazing love scenes sure to make you blush!) murder, intrigue, and a plot that gets thicker with every page. Readers can appreciate that this novel speaks to some really important issues facing national forests throughout the country. Romaine has created strong, relatable characters and a story that keeps readers on their toes. I highly recommend LEAVE NO TRACE—as far as romantic thrillers go, I give it two hearty thumbs up!
