Marketing exec Lucy Cunningham is thrilled when her firm lands The Palm Club account. The campaign concept for Miami's hottest fitness club was Lucy's idea: take one fitness-challenged woman, put her in front of TV cameras, and into the hands of the club's top personal trainer, Theo Redmond. And there's a big cash reward for each pound shed. It seems like a brilliant idea-until Lucy gets picked to be the guinea pig. It's obvious she needs to drop the pounds, but the idea of letting it all hang out in front of some Malibu Ken jock has her choking on her Milk Duds before she even begins!
After one meeting, Theo knows Lucy will be his toughest client and one of the most unforgettable women he'll ever meet. Smart-mouthed and stubborn, it's clear she isn't fond of marching to anyone's drumbeat but her own. But she shocks Theo by rising to the challenge like a pro. And he finds his heart in jeopardy long before Lucy starts to slim down and turn heads.
As Lucy sweats her way into a whole new life, things start to heat up between her and Theo. But trust doesn't come easy for either of them. They've both been burned by romance in the past. Now Lucy and Theo are about to discover that appearances can be deceiving-and in the end, true love lies somewhere between pizza and Pilates... |
RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:
Let me just begin my review by saying that I love, love, love this book! Susan Donovan gives us a story about an overweight, unhealthy woman with a low self-esteem and a very unhealthy affinity for Milk Duds™, who overcomes great odds to achieve her goals and get the man of her dreams! Reading Lucy's story made me want to drag out the treadmill and run a few miles of my own!
I like the way that Ms. Donovan gives us a very realistic story in HE LOVES LUCY. Our hero, Theo, likes Lucy from the very beginning, so it is not unrealistic for him to slowly, but surely, fall in love with her over the year that they are working
together. Lucy has wonderful wit and a great sense of humor, and it was nice to watch as even though overweight and not looking her best, she mesmerizes this gorgeous man. I love that Theo is not this shallow, self-centered guy that Lucy thinks he is at the beginning of the book. He really has true depth and substance and is an all around good guy. I guess in all real life situations these two stereotypes are typical—that gorgeous men are shallow and that overweight woman are not attractive. In HE LOVES LUCY, Ms. Donovan put those stereotypes to rest for me.
Lucy is clearly the underdog right from the get go, but when push comes to shove she comes out stronger and more together than ever before—emotionally and physically. I was proud to watch this transformation, as it is one that I feel is
important and sends a very good message to women—you don’t have to be 120 pounds to be beautiful. We are beautiful just the way we are, just the size we are, with all of our flaws.
HE LOVES LUCY is a book for every woman out there who feels like she is overweight, or unattractive, or maybe someone who wants to read a great romance and dig into a top rate novel. Anything is within our grasp; we just have to reach for it—that is one thought that this book inspires in me. With it’s unforgettable characters, wonderful plot, and excellent message, HE LOVES LUCY will go on my keeper shelf to be read and re-read a thousand times. Ms. Donovan has gained a new fan and proven that she will have serious star power in the years to come.
