Dream of Me by Lisa Cach

Theron, undying creature of the Night World, knew everything about making love.  But though he was an incubus, a bringer of carnal visions to sleeping maids, he had grander ambitions.  He plotted to step into the mortal world and rule as king.

The beautiful Lucia was imprisoned in a fortress atop a mountain.  Her betrothed, Prince Vlad of Wallachia, wanted her purity intact; but when the prince broke a vow to Theron, nothing could keep her safe. The girl would be subjected to Theron's seduction; she would learn all his lips might teach.

A demon of lust and a sheltered princess: each dreamed of what they’d never had.  They were about to get everything they wished…and more.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS: 4 Rose Read

So, I am disappointed. Not heartbroken or anything, but definitely upset that this book isn't what I wanted it to be. Lisa Cach's newest release, DREAM OF ME, the follow up to COME TO ME, was something I was truly looking forward to. I was saving it towards the bottom of my "review pile" because I knew I could count on it to knock my socks off if the books preceding it weren't so hot. There was never any doubt that I would love it. Which is why I am shocked and, well, disappointed.

Don't get me wrong. This is still a 4 Rose Read for originality and creativity alone. The whole concept of the Night World and incubus and succubus, is just too cool to not read about. The beauty described by the demons and their supernatural abilities are things I won't ever tire of reading about. Especially when Lisa Cach is spinning the tale. My problem is all about Theron, the hero demon.

I wanted fireworks, tension, and true longing between Theron and Lucia. (Like Samira and Nicolae in COME TO ME). Instead what I got was a few naughty dreams and not enough scenes together. Heck, I had to wait half the book before I even had Lucia and Theron together in one of those dreams!

And Lucia! A heroine?! *snort* What a half-wit! She is waiting for her betrothed, Vlad Draco no less, and she can't figure out the most simple things. Surrounded only by nuns and women and told since she was young to stay pure in her mind, heart, and spirit, she has never really questioned much or attempted to get out of her castle prison. The questions she asks had me closing the book for a few minutes to control my laughter at her absurdity. There is naive, and then there is just plain stupid.

And for those of you that think I may have missed this point: Yes, I know Lucia is wearing a necklace that has been enchanted to keep any "impurities" from soiling her, but she did see her maid and soldier doing something in the bushes. And she has been told countless times that it is dirty down below. It seems like curiosity should have gotten the best of her a long time ago.

Oh, well. I guess I like the first one better in this series. Samira had a true, heart wrenching story and I feel like Theron was cheated. I wanted him to have more time with Lucia as himself, and not characters in her dreams.
