The OneThat Got Away by Alexander, Carlyle, James, Maxwell

He was the first ... he was the best ...
He was the one that got away!

Now he's back ...
but do you still want him?

Every woman remembers that one special man who slipped through her fingers, leaving her not only asking the question "What happened?" but also wondering aboutwhat could have been if she hadn't let him go.

Now, four of today's bestselling historical romance writers -- Victoria Alexander, Liz Carlyle, Eloisa James and Cathy Maxwell -- show us what can happen when the man you thought was out of your life forever returns.

In this stirring quartet of original novellas, four sets of star-crossed lovers are given the golden opportunity to relive the passion ... and set the past right. Fate has brought these couples back together, but only love can determine if each is just momentary madness or a reunion that will last for all time.

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY is an anthology of stories that all feature reunited lovers. As this is one of my favorite themes, I was eager to read this book. All four stories are satisfying reads, although my favorite is the Eloisa James story, “A Fool Again.” Starring two lovers who were separated on their way to Gretna Green as youths, they reunite after the heroine is widowed. Believing that Tobias left her without a fight when her father caught up to their carriage, Genevieve has a hard time believing that Tobias has never forgotten about her. Also being courted by one of her late husband’s business partners, Genevieve must decide if he’s perfect for her or should she give Tobias another chance?

Usually, I’m not a huge fan of anthologies, since I feel the length can be a hindrance to the story’s development. I did see signs of this at points in some of the stories, but not enough to take away from my enjoyment. I found this anthology a heartwarming read and a perfect fit during the holidays when one reflects on past relationships.
