Shadow Fires by Catherine Spangler

FROM THE SHADOWS...

Jenna dan Aron lived a solitary existence, shunned by her people because she could see the future. She even foresees her own destiny: to be a human offering, a mate for a savage Leor warlord. When two Shielder colonies had to be rescued and the Leors who are their only hope demanded a bride for their leader in return, Jenna steped forward. She would not defy fate.

INTO THE FIRES...

Arion of Saura found mating outside his race abhorrent, but he had no choice, as his kind faced extinction. His life was ruled by hard logic and physical prowess, with no room for softness or emotion. Bound to him, Jenna faced a life of barbarism with a mate who seemed more beast than man. But in the relentless heat of the wild Sauran desert, Jenna and Arion wage a battle of wills until they discovered that the heart is mightier than any weapon—and that love would forge shadow and fire together..

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

Jenna dan Aron has seen her future. She has the sight which causes all her fellow Shielders to want nothing to do with her. So her existence on the planet is a lonely one. But when it is time for her to come forth to save hundreds of her people from death, she volunteers to marry into a barbarian clan. She knows it is her destiny. She must go to a planet where humans are seldom allowed.

Arion, Comdar of Saura had to mate with a human. His people were dying out and in order to save his race, he had decided to marry a Shielder. He has been raised as a ruler and life has hardened him. His race does not know laughter and never smiles. He has never felt emotions and thought only to marry her, get her with child and forget about her. She would not interrupt his rigid lifestyle.

In SHADOW FIRES, by Catherine Spangler, the reader will find a brand new futuristic world. The story catches you on the first page and refuses to let go until the end. You find yourself genuinely caring for the two protagonists in this fast paced novel, and anxiously awaiting the result of their union. Ms. Spangler is an excellent writer and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I am looking forward to reading anything else by her. For the futuristic reader, this is a must read.
