The Sea Hawk

A masterpiece of historical action—and a ferociously gripping adventure tale. Oliver Tressilian, a Cornish gentleman who helped defeat the Spanish Armada, is betrayed by his half-brother, throwing him into circumstances where he becomes a Barbary pirate and a follower of Islam.

READER'S COMMENTS:

Got to be one of the original 'sheikh" stories, and to me still the best. It was filmed twice, once with Error Flynn as the hero. Story of an English nobleman sold to pirates by his brother, who wanted the woman they both loved for himself. The betrayed brother, sold into Moorish slavery, converts to Islam (outwardly, anyway) and becomes a Barbary pirate himself. Eventually he takes his revenge. I read it as a child and loved it, recently re-read it and had the same reaction.
