ARMS OF A STRANGER

Author: Danice Allen ISBN:0380777266 1/1995

Tired of being pursued by shallow suitors in London, Anne Weston longs to find a virile, self-made man in New Orleans. Instead she meets Lucien Delacroix, the handsome ne'er-do-well son of a wealthy plantation owner, a charming dilettante who pays more attention to the cut of his coat than to the running of his estate. Yet Anne can't help feeling that there's more to him than meets the eye, especially since Lucien reminds her of the dark and daring stranger who one night pulled her into the shadows and recklessly kissed her...just after she had watched him help a family of slaves escape. Spellbound by the rogue's sensuality and enamored of his brave but illegal deed, she is drawn into his dangerous masquerade...and the fulfillment of love's most passionate dream.

READER'S COMMENTS:

Danice Allen is a pseudonym for Emily Dalton. Arms of a Stranger is one of several books by her under that name. It is about a single English woman coming to a barely pre-Civil War America, New Orleans to be exact, because she's tired of the "tonnish fops" parading before her back home. Enroute, she first meets a man named Lucien, who is the ne'er-do-well heir of a wealthy Creole family plantation. Disturbed by her attraction to another apparent self-absorbed dandy, she wonders if she'll ever meet a man of real quality, strength, and integrity. Then, she crosses paths with Renard, a masked stranger and abolitionist outlaw. Lucien finds himself as his own rival in this fun and thrilling romance. It's my all-time favorite love story!.
