Georgian Era Romance

18th Century Europe and America The 18th Century

-- a "risk all" period in history. The upper class, active in politics as well as personally running their estates, held the same philosophy in all areas of their lives: they played as hard as they worked, enjoying balls, fine wines and great food, gambling, and lurid affairs of the heart. White powdered wigs, panniers on women's dresses, men in breeches with high heeled shoes, were all part of the extravagance of formal affairs of the rich at their posh estates. It was also a period where English aristocracy reached the height of its power, and was challenged continually by the likes of "Bonnie Prince Charlie" of Scotland, it's newfound nation, America, and the fallout from the French Revolution. Is there any more volatile period in history to introduce conflicts politically as well as personally? The hundreds of novels listed reflect why the upper-class lifestyles of the 18th Century continue to spark the imagination of romance authors everywhere.
