1. In your bio, you mention you were born in the wrong century. If you
could pick a time to have lived, which era would it be and why?

Well, for obvious reasons I would have to say Regency England. And
I've always been fond of the hoop skirts and Southern plantations of
the Civil War era. Of course, the rational part of my mind knows
that these time periods have been highly romanticized by television
and books. The balls and tea parties were only a small part of life
for the privileged few, and the hardships back then were tremendous.
But a gal can dream she's Scarlett O'Hara for a while, can't she? :)
2. You've also been told that you would miss modern conveniences. Which
do you think you would miss the most? Why?

That's a toughie, and you would probably get a different answer
depending on which day of the week you asked me, but I'm going to go
with my television set. I would be lost without my favorite T.V.
shows. Oh, and modern plumbing. Just between you and me, I don't
think I would have dealt very well with chamber pots.
3. The least? Why?

Probably the washing machine, but only because my laundry rarely gets
done anyway, LOL. My dirty clothes pile is starting to rival the
Empire State Building.
4. Tell us about Skittle. How did s/he get the name? How old?

Skittle is a he. He's twelve-years-old, shamefully spoiled, and
thinks he's human. I don't mind admitting that he's my baby. I just
adore him, so he kind of expects everyone else to as well. As for
his name, when he was a puppy one of my friends used to say he was no
bigger than a Skittle (Meaning the candy) and I thought it was cute,
so it stuck.
5. Tell us about your family. You sound like you are definitely the
favorite aunt. *G*

My family is great. We're all very close, and they've always been
supportive of my writing. My mom is actually a great brainstorming
partner and is usually the first to proofread the early versions of
my manuscripts. And when I need a good laugh, I know my brother and
sister will come through for me. They have really great senses of
humor and can crack me up without even half trying. As for being the
favorite aunt, my mom is fond of saying that I'm just a big kid
myself, so I guess it's only natural that I get along so well with
the little ones. Ha!
6. I read and reviewed A KISS BEFORE DAWN. Really enjoyed it, but I just
have to ask about this. Really, I have to. LOL. Emily tended to ˜look up
through lowered lashes". Now, I tried to do this. I had my friends try.
We just couldn't manage this. Is this physically possible?

Hmmmm. Now that you mention it¦ No, LOL. Actually, you would be
surprised by the number of times I will use certain phrases in a book
and not realize until later that it just doesn't work. Usually I
catch it during the copy edit stage. That time I didn't. It's like
the old joke about the heroes in romance novels always having too
many arms and hands. Authors get carried away describing the
sequence of events, especially during the love scenes, and they
forget that the hero can only do so many things at once. :)
7. When you are not writing what are you doing?

Usually trying to catch up with all of the housework and other things
that get neglected while I am writing. But for fun, I like to invite
the niece and nephews over and try out some of the newest Playstation
2 video games or call a friend to catch up with some of the movies
that I have missed out on seeing since going into deadline mode. I'm
a huge movie buff and I used to go almost every weekend, but I
haven't had as much time since I started writing. I also still do a
lot of reading. I've been a bookworm since way back when, and I have
a TBR pile almost as tall as my laundry.
8. I love the covers of your last two books. How much input did you have
into the covers? Do you find it frustrating?

At Avon, authors are always allowed to make suggestions, and usually
my editor will ask me to provide the art department with a
description of my characters and some scenes from the book so they
can try to match things as closely as possible. But it is really up
to the publisher. I've been pretty happy with most of my covers, and
I've really loved the last two, so I've learned with time to trust
Avon's judgment.
9. What's upcoming? What can we expect next?

Well, I am just now wrapping up the final book in the Daventry
Sisters series, SEDUCED BY SIN, which should hit shelves sometime in
April 2008. After that, I have several ideas. I want to stick with
historical romance, but as much as I enjoy the mystery angle that has
been so much a part of this most recent series, I would like to try
and challenge myself by moving away from that and doing something a
bit different. The most successful authors are the ones who know how
to grow and change with the ever evolving market, and I would like to
think that I'll still be around ten years from now. I guess we'll
see. Fingers crossed!
